Facial Implants - Chin - Jaw - Cheeks

Facial Implants - Chin - Jaw - Cheeks - Plastic Surgery

What are the facial implants?

Facial implants are made of solid materials, which are compatible with bone and human tissue, and are intended to stand your facial structure out. The kind of implant, size and position of it will depend on Dr. Robles’ assessment and how he tries to meet your desires and expectations.

A facial implant surgery may improve your facial structure notably, as well as correct disproportions to achieve a balance on the face. Implants are usually put in the malar region or the chin.

A chin implant may increase the size and shape of a small chin. Cheek implants modify the shape of the malar region and add volume to an area that may look thin or hollow. The jaw implant increases the size of the lower part of your face.

Am I a good candidate?

This surgery is best practiced on patients that have already reached adulthood, since their bodies will already be fully developed. The best candidates are those people who are in optimum physical conditions, who do not have any condition that may endanger their health or the healing process. Furthermore, it is very important that they don’t smoke and that they keep a positive look with specific and realistic goals to improve their looks.

What does the surgery consist of?

Once Dr. Robles has decided the most appropriate technique as well as the type and size of implant you will be able to go into the operating room. In there, the doctor will mark the areas he will be treating and take pictures of them. This is done to be able to compare the results after the surgery. The following step is anesthetizing and sedating you in order to start with the surgery.

Facial implants are put with different techniques. For a chin implant, the incision will be done on the lower lip, and there the doctor will make the implant pocket. Another option is to perform the incision under the chin. Jaw implants are usually put through the mouth with incisions done behind the mandibular line. Cheek implants are usually placed through incisions in the mouth. When there are several procedures done together, other incisions will be advised, such as an incision inside the eyelid.

Facial implants provide permanent and almost immediate results to improve how your face looks. By changing the facial structure, with a more prominent chin, a better defined jaw and shaped cheeks, you will gain a great facial balance.

Are there other options?

The other options are injectable implants with are done puncturing. The half-life of these will depend on the substance used and you will need to perform the treatment several times, though you will avoid the post-operation. You have to bear in mind that the results will not be as good as those achieved with the surgery.

How is the recovery?

Once the procedure is finished, the doctor’s assistants will place bandages to cover the wound during the initial healing.

The healing process includes swelling, numbness and a discomfort feeling that can be controlled with medication.

If your implants were done through mouth incisions you will need to have a liquid diet, avoiding the movement of your jaw for the first days. You must wash your mouth with an antiseptic solution several times a day, even if you can brush your teeth.

Wounds will close between 7 to 10 days after the surgery. At this time, some of the stitches will be removed if necessary. Healing will continue for several weeks as the swelling wears off and the tissue around the implant recovers.

It will be vital that you follow all of the instructions given by Dr. Robles to the letter to achieve a quick and effective recovery.

What are the risks?

The risks involved with this surgery are infection, anomalous healing, nerve damage and risks associated with anesthesia.

How long will the results last?

Even though the results are immediate, you will not see them fully because of the swelling. Once the swelling wears off and the body gets used to the new shape of your face, a few months after the surgery, you will see the final outcome. The results are permanent, even if the implants do not last a life time.

What do I need to get the surgery done?

After all the details have been confirmed with Dr. Robles, you will be given some documents related to the procedure. There, you will find the informed consent for the surgery, which is a written statement that you’ve been fully informed of the surgery you are about to be practiced, as well as the risks involved. You will also be given a sworn statement of your medical history. Both must be read and filled when they are given to you, however you’ll sign them the day of the surgery on Clínica Robles.

In order to assure your safety and to be certain that the surgery will go without any complications, Dr. Robles will perform some routine pre-surgical tests, including blood tests, ECG, surgical risk tests, and whenever necessary an ultrasound scan.

It is of the utmost importance that you have all of the medication and other elements that Dr. Robles had asked you in previous consults. A fast recovery will depend on that. Medication varies according to the type of treatment or your medical history. This is why that information must be the trustworthy.
